In February 2018 Elleanor Jean Hendley launched the Jazz Salon at Our House Culture Center in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hendley was asked to create this monthly series by Our House business partners Ebony Wortham, Esq., a Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney and Courtney Childs, a real estate manager. Wortham and Childs wanted to include jazz among the programs curated at Our House, an event rental space available to the community, and Hendley was excited to volunteer for this creative endeavor.
From childhood Hendley has been immersed in jazz, beginning with the exposure through her parents who were fans of the music. As a former television journalist at CBS 3 TV in Philadelphia, Hendley was the producer and host of City Lights, a weekend prime time magazine show with a music segment that often featured local and national jazz performers.
Through the years Hendley has continued to support jazz music. She co-hosts the Annual Jazz Awards Weekend of the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and the Performing Arts, where she studies piano. Hendley also sponsors and hosts a yearly Jazz Jam Pool Party fundraiser at her home to benefit the Club.
Since its inception the Jazz Salon has become a popular venue on the local jazz scene. The musical guests, some of whom have appeared on City Lights, generously give back to the community by sharing their time and talent. The Jazz Salon is open the fourth Friday of each month and is free to the public.
